Are Dead Babies Funny?

We are excited to be starting work on our debut play! This was born out of a sitcom idea - but it quickly became clear that it wasn't working as a classic half hour TV comedy. But we loved the idea so much, we reworked it as a play!

A new mother, Cass, tackles her postpartum crisis, with dark humour, a bright wit and brutal honesty. How can you live up to the super-maternal, picture-perfect image perpetuated by social media? How can you keep a sense of yourself when now you must suddenly care for a new life? How can you deal with life at its most demanding when you are at your weakest ebb?

This is a story about finding light in the darkest places and the unvarnished truth of motherhood that so often goes unspoken.

Developed in collaboration with actor Kimberley Nixon (from ‘Fresh Meat’, ‘The Tuckers’, ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’) who has spoken candidly about her own mental health struggles after childbirth, this story draws from real-life experiences to shine a light on the often-hidden world of postpartum mental health.
